It is true that pre-conception diet has an effect on the baby nearly as much as the pregnancy diet. Actually, they are starting to find things that indicate that your prenatal diet can even affect things like the child's dental and bone health through childhood! It's a big responsibility!
I think one of the most important things to remember about nutrition though is this: Yes, they have made some great foods and supplements that contain all the vitamins and nutrients they know about which are important...however, how do we know if they have found *all* the important stuff yet?! For that reason, I prefer not to depend on vitamins or manmade foods (though I'm not specifically against them), and I do try to make sure that I get a lot of whole foods just the way nature made them--fruits and veggies and eggs and whole grains and all that naturey goodness. :)

Marti, Thank you so much! I have been making my husband eat some bellybars too ;) No actually he does like the chocolate ones... haha, but I got him some vitamins to take a well! He's been a good sport about it all. I don't even have to remind him to take them anymore!

I NEVER thought of non-toxic cleaners and products though! He's at the store now I'll have to call him and tell him that! Thank you! And keep the tips coming!

Jennifer, you are so wise to start thinking ahead. Guess what, your husband should be doing likewise. You are both going to make this baby, right? You also want to be sure to get plenty of good quality folic acid and start thinking about changing brands to non-toxic cleaners/laundry products - (to again decrease your chemical exposure). Keep on researching - you are so on the right track!
